Japanese encephalitis is an acute encephalitis transmitted by mosquitoes. In Taiwan, Culex tritaeniorhynchus is the primary vector. As mosquitoes are most active during dawn and dusk, outdoor activities should be avoided during these times to reduce the risk of mosquito bites.
Japanese encephalitis is primarily transmitted through the bite of an infected mosquito. In other words, the virus must be able to replicate within the mosquito and be transmitted to humans through the mosquito's bite. This zoonotic disease is not transmitted through direct contact with the blood or secretions of an infected person. Therefore, isolating the blood and secretions of patients is not a primary measure for preventing Japanese encephalitis.
