巴洛克時期Baroque period
巴洛克時期是音樂史上的第三個時期，於16世紀末至18世紀中葉，處於君主專制制度的鼎盛時期，當時歐洲資本主義經濟快速發展，而天主教的地位受到削弱，另外啟蒙運動蓬勃發展，理性主義和自由主義思想得到廣泛傳播，繪畫、音樂和建築的藝術呈現強調強烈情感、熱情奔放，音樂風格以華麗、複雜、注重對位而聞名。不再追求文藝復興以來講求平衡、莊重和暗喻的古典藝術。
The Baroque period, the third era in music history, spanned from the late 16th to the mid-18th century. It coincided with the zenith of absolute monarchies, rapid development of European capitalist economy, weakening of the Catholic Church, and the flourishing of the Enlightenment, where rationalism and liberalism were widely spread. The arts, including painting, music, and architecture, emphasized strong emotions and passionate exuberance, departing from the classical art of the Renaissance that sought balance, solemnity, and allegory. Music was particularly characterized by its ornate, complex, and contrapuntal style.
